Volunteer Opportunities
The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society relies on volunteers of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and levels of experience to accomplish its mission to document, preserve, and interpret local history.
Volunteer experiences at the Society range from on-site activities, such as staffing of the library and the reception/exhibit area, museum cataloging, and data-entry, to off-site ones such as guiding walking tours, presenting slideshows to local groups, and participating in the annual Spirit Walk of downtown Charlottesville.
Volunteering can be a regular weekly commitment, or can involve specific, temporary projects like constructing a hat rack for the Spirit Walk's costumes, or researching and creating an exhibit on a particular piece of local history. Individuals who would enjoy mounting exhibit text and images labels are particularly needed.
Volunteers are needed to conduct oral history interviews, particularly as part of the Veterans History Project.
